June 6th is National Donut Day!
National Donut Day may be sweet and lighthearted, but it also presents the perfect opportunity to show appreciation for those who serve and protect our local communities every day – our local law enforcement officers.
While donuts and police may be a longtime cultural pairing, today the connection is less about clichés and more about community. On this National Donut Day, we’re encouraging everyone to look beyond the frosting and sprinkles and recognize the dedication, sacrifice, and commitment of the men and women in uniform who keep our neighborhoods, families and friends safe.
From responding to emergencies and patrolling our streets to participating in school safety programs and community events, law enforcement officers are woven into the fabric of our daily lives. They work holidays, weekends, and overnight shifts to protect the people and places we care about – often without thanks or recognition. And, frankly, that’s not what they’re looking for.
That’s why a simple box of donuts and a heartfelt “thank you” can go a long way.
Originally started in 1938 (which is also when Pierce Pepin Cooperative Services was established) to honor volunteers who served donuts to soldiers during World War I, National Donut Day has grown into a celebration of service, community, and yes – indulgent pastries.
So today, whether you’re enjoying a glazed twist, a jelly-filled classic, or a maple long john, consider taking a moment to recognize those who are out on patrol, keeping your community safe.
Because behind every badge is a person who serves with heart and dedication to their community – and, maybe, just maybe, they enjoy a donut or two along the way.
