November 2024: Staying Safe and Secure

As the vibrant fall colors come and go in the blink of an eye, we’re reminded that winter is just around the corner. It’s been a great year for us, and we’re proud to have connected nearly 1,000 new subscribers to SwiftCurrent over the past year. But our work isn’t done—we’re continuing to expand, especially in Pepin County, to better serve our growing community.

With winter approaching, it’s a good time to keep a few things in mind:

1.  Stay Safe Around Downed Lines
While our fiber network is typically unaffected by snow, ice, or sleet, those elements can still impact the poles and wires supporting the lines. If you come across a downed line, please stay clear and contact our office right away. Fiber and power lines can look similar—so never assume it’s just a non-energized fiber line. It could be a live electric line, posing a serious safety risk.

2.  Secure Your Network During Gatherings
Winter brings opportunities to connect with family and friends, and many homes welcome guests who want to use the internet. With the SwiftCurrent App, you can easily set up a guest Wi-Fi network with a separate password. While you may trust your visitors, it’s good practice to limit their access to your main network. Once guests leave, you never know who else might access their devices. A guest network ensures your home devices and sensitive information stay protected.

We hope you enjoy the Fall and thank you for being a part of SwiftCurrent.
