What is High-Speed Internet SERVICE?

Is your internet provider really delivering high-speed internet service?

We must have struck a nerve with some of our competitors.  Recently, I have seen several social media posts and advertising campaigns going all in that their service is “high-speed broadband.”

The definition of high-speed internet or broadband as defined by the FCC is 25 Mbps Download / 3 Mbps Upload.  This is not a high threshold, in fact most providers, if not all can provide this speed.  Recently, there have been attempts made to move this to 100 Mpbs / 20 Mpbs. In fact the National Telecommunication and Information Administration (NTIA) requested the FCC set this baseline standard as 100 / 100 Mbps.  It’s no surprise the cable industry trade group, NCTA along with the fixed wireless association known as WISPA both rejected this idea. Why? They have lots of excuses, but the real reason is they know many of their represented providers can’t perform to these standards. Once these standards are in place they become the benchmark for funding opportunities.  So while many providers can claim they have broadband service today, want they really mean is they can provide you a high-speed internet plan, but that doesn’t mean they deliver great SERVICE on top of their speed.

For most customers, speed is the basic thing you pay for, but for a lot of people it’s how their provider services and supports them. We’ve spent a lot of time trying educating people on the benefits of fiber vs. cable vs. satellite vs. fixed wireless vs. DSL vs. Starlink vs. dialup.  I’ve come to one conclusion, the technology for most people only matters when it boils down to reliability, cost and service.

So let’s talk about a few things related to those in a fiber service:

Most Reliable:  Why? Because fiber is not weather dependent, doesn’t need a clear line of sight or care about how much you utilize the service. It’s not constrained by large amounts of data or other environmental factors. This means, for you the customer, you are going to have a workable, reliable connection 100% of the time. Bottom line, you get the SERVICE you pay for.

Local Service:  SwiftCurrent Connect technicians live here in Wisconsin and they are on-call 24/7 to service your needs. If you have a problem, we will troubleshoot for you to get you back and up running. If we can’t, our technicians will be dispatched to your home or business to troubleshoot on-site.  Our people our local. They aren’t in a different state, different country or for that matter a different planet. They know you, they go to church with you, they see you at local sporting events, school functions, and are part of your community. Local means people you know that SERVICE your needs.

Cost Effective:  Simply put, you get what you pay for!  SwiftCurrent Connect offers great speeds, provides you the equipment and tools to keep you safe, at an affordable price.  If you compare our prices to anyone else for what you get with our service, we come out ahead.  Our plans deliver great connections, keep you connected and help you do the things that are most critical in life which is to keep your family, safe, secure, protected and connected.

Lots of providers will talk about their “high-speed” broadband offering.  We tell people to dig deep, ask questions and really compare what you are getting. Even better, ask your current provider where their headquarters or main office is located.  If it’s not in western Wisconsin, you should probably rethink whether that business is local or just here to sell you something.  Our high-speed broadband SERVICE is more than a fancy social media post or postcard, it’s what we do to ensure that we provide you great SERVICE.
